OUR STORY

Soul de Cuba Cafe was born from a lifelong journey of service, resilience, and a deep love for bringing people together.

Founder Jesus Puerto’s path to opening Soul de Cuba began long before the restaurant itself. As a young man, Jesus survived a life-threatening battle with spinal meningitis. Doctors gave him little chance of survival and warned that, if he lived, he might face permanent disabilities. Against the odds, he made a full recovery, an experience that profoundly shaped his outlook on life and inspired a commitment to serving others.

That commitment led him around the world. Over the years, Jesus worked with humanitarian and community organizations, including the Peace Corps, Habitat for Humanity, and international development programs throughout the Caribbean, Central America, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Through these experiences, he learned that while cultures may differ, food, hospitality, and human connection have the power to bring people together.

In 2004, Jesús opened the first Soul de Cuba Cafe, creating a space where authentic Cuban cuisine, culture, and community could be shared with others. What began as a restaurant quickly became something more, a place where stories are exchanged, traditions are celebrated, and guests are welcomed like family.

Today, Soul de Cuba continues that mission by honoring the rich culinary traditions of Cuba while creating memorable dining experiences for every guest who walks through the door. Every recipe, every gathering, and every meal reflects the values that inspired the restaurant from the very beginning: service, hospitality, community, and love.

Because at Soul de Cuba, food is more than nourishment, it’s a way to connect people, celebrate culture, and share a little piece of Cuba with the world.

“Food is one of the most powerful ways we connect with one another. Every meal is an opportunity to share culture, create community, and make someone feel at home.”
